SLS Laser Sintered Finishing Options

SLS selective laser sintered parts can be custom finished in multiple ways to meet your needs.

SLS Finishing Techniques

There a number of part finishing techniques.  The idea is always to minimize part finishing to reduce cost unless that finishing adds value to the part.  Our standard finish is bead blasting to remove any unsintered powder sticking to the surface of our parts.

SLS parts are inherently a bit rought (Ra 6-10). SLS parts can be vibratory tumbled to smooth the surface of our parts.  This requires minimal labor but does round some details.

SLS Coatings

SLS parts are typically white but can be dyed or painted.  A typical dye color is black and we often paint parts a standard military grey.  There are many dye colors available and great paints by Krylon and others that bond well to plastic.

Other coatings can also be applied to SLS parts.  Our std PA12 parts are tight with wall thicknesses greater than 0.060” (1.5mm) and have exceptional chemical and fuel resistance.  We have examples that have held 10psi of air for a year with no measureable fuel loss.

SLS Fastener Inserts

SLS nylon can be tapped directly for integration of fasteners.  However when additional strength or more cycles are required of inserting and removing a fastener, metal inserts are often preferred.  Metal inserts are often made from Brass or Stainless Steel and are available in many shapes and sizes.
