The Bottleneck: Balancing Featherlight Flight and Rugged Durability

Building a reliable delivery drone comes with intense physical constraints. The frame needed to be featherlight to maximize flight time, ridiculously easy to assemble, and rugged enough to survive the daily grind of commercial transportation. Finding that perfect balance took some trial and error. Our initial Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) plastic choices could not handle the aerodynamic stress, so we quickly pivoted to high-performance SLS 3D printing materials. For the first production run, we utilized the exceptional strength of Nylon 11 PA 840-GSL. As the design evolved for the second batch, we transitioned to Nylon 12 PA 2201 to provide that ultimate, crash-resistant toughness.

The Solution: Agile Prototyping with Additive Manufacturing

Instead of committing to rigid injection molds that cost a fortune to alter, SLS 3D printing allows for rapid prototyping and on-the-fly design adjustments.
