Custom 3D Printed Firearm Parts
Ready, Aim, Fire… With Custom 3D Printed Firearm Parts
Working with local Oregon trailblazers like TREKKER Design & Manufacturing out of Hillsboro is always a blast. Pun absolutely intended. TREKKER engineers niche products for highly specialized markets. We tackled a wildly fun challenge together: manufacturing obsolete firearm replacement parts to get antique guns out of the display case and back on the range.
The Bottleneck: Rescuing Obsolete Firearm Components
The mission was straightforward but crucial. We needed to manufacture replacement components for classic guns featuring parts abandoned by traditional manufacturers decades ago. This total lack of available hardware kept avid sport shooters from enjoying legacy rifles passed down through their families. Our specific objective was to design and fabricate a highly reliable Remington 591 magazine replacement.
The Solution: Advanced SLS 3D Printing with Nylon 12 PA 2201
For this job, we fired up the SLS 3D printers using Nylon 12 PA 2201. We selected this specific polyamide because it is incredibly rugged and exceptionally lightweight, yet it remains highly economical for mass production. Add in its outstanding chemical resistance, and you have the absolute perfect material for SLS 3D printed firearm parts.
During the initial production run, one part unfortunately fell out of tolerance. It simply did not fit the rifle when the customer tested the magazine. We didn't panic. We immediately teamed up with TREKKER Design & Manufacturing to reverse-engineer the flaw. Together, we tweaked the digital design to guarantee a flawless fit for all future batches of custom firearm components.
The Results: Bullseye Success with Additive Manufacturing
These 3D printed firearm parts are a massive win for both TREKKER Design & Manufacturing and their enthusiastic customers. The new magazines are fully functional and hold strict tolerances under pressure. Furthermore, the sheer speed of additive manufacturing for firearms allowed our production team to easily keep pace with the client's high market demand.
We genuinely love supporting local businesses. We honestly cannot wait for our next engineering adventure with the TREKKER crew.
